God revealed that sex is the gateway to both good and evil through many religious founders. Since we cannot control sexual desire, they called for celibacy. Consider the apostle Paul: “To the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”

It is good for them to stay unmarried.

This makes marriage a second-best path, necessitated only to resolve lack of sexual discipline. And yet Genesis calls us to marry. This is a contradiction; an accommodation to evil cannot be a part of God’s original creation.

Paul taught that marriage conflicts with pleasing the Lord, because “An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs–how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of the world–how he can please his wife–and his interests are divided.” Choose one, your spouse or the Lord.

Augustine’s explanation is that with the Fall, humankind lost the power to choose the good, that is, to be selfless. Selfishness began in the sexual organs. With the Fall, lust invaded our first parents’ “organs of generation.” This illuminates King David’s statement: “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”

God will not withhold His Blessing of marriage forever.

No religion has cleared sin out of marriage. But God will not withhold His marriage Blessing forever. After all, Paul spoke with an expectation that the Lord was coming soon. He began his letter with, “you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” He includes in his admonition against marriage, “What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. …For this world in its present form is passing away.”

Paul expected a resolution upon Jesus’ return. Unfortunately, Jesus did not come soon. As a result, Christianity has been in a holding pattern with regard to the relations of men and women.

It is no coincidence that Father Moon, proclaiming the Second Advent, would also proclaim God’s Holy Marriage Blessing. The holding pattern is over. Fasten your seat belts—we can land now.
