Two former US presidents were in attendance, together with hundreds of eminent clergy, scholars and social leaders. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher sent video congratulations. It was the founding of the Family Federation in Washington, DC. At its farewell banquet, August 1, 1996, True Father, walking among the tables, gave his farewell address.

Until now you may have thought that it is not virtuous to appreciate the sexual organs.

His topic was profound, the goal of science and religion both: “In Search of the Origin of the Universe.” It was an impromptu talk—no text, no notes. His listeners were shocked, titillated, embarrassed. So too was his interpreter. Father Moon looked at pastors and presidents and asked them, straight on:

Does anyone here dislike their sexual organs? If you like them, to what extent do you like them? Until now you may have thought that it is not virtuous to appreciate the sexual organs, but from now on you need to appreciate their value.

What? You’re talking about me and my privates? How did Father Moon get there? He started with this: “If we go deeper and deeper in our search for the origin of the universe, we arrive at God.” Okay, great. Any atheists here? Nope. Short speech.

But then Father Moon unpacked God: “God possesses dual characteristics of male and female.” Unorthodox? Not really—the world scriptures teach it. For example:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God has created all things in pairs: He created man and woman, heaven and earth…

The Great Primal Beginning generates the two primary forces [yang and yin].

All life, all pulsation in creation throbs with the mighty declaration of the truth of Shiva-Shakti, the eternal He and the eternal She at play in manifestation.

The universe’s origin is sex. Our origin is sex.

Most of his listeners probably considered God somewhere between a bearded man and a ball of energy. Okay, Father Moon was saying, but this bearded man and ball of energy are male and female. And they become one. And that’s sex. The universe’s origin is sex. Our origin is sex. “Rev. Moon, I thought this was about a peace organization. Do we need to talk about sex?”

But sex comes down to us, to our sexual organs and what we do with them. And that has everything to do with world peace.

  1. Life, interdependence, co-creativity and the first creative act (sex) in the context of the search for the origins of the universe is the orthodoxy of the True Parents. And, in reference to the first commandment given in the Garden of Eden, exercise restraint by day … delay the immature urge for immediate gratification, wait a while and refrain from eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And that has everything to do with world peace.
