Mother Moon recently announced, âHyo Jeong (filial heart) is the essence of VISION 2020 and the cornerstone of the firm establishment of Cheon Il Guk.â Iâd like to offer some reflections on Hyo Jeong.
“I am a participant in my parentsâ love, as one body with them.“
When a child who is too young to understand asks their parent, âWhere did I come from?â the parent will answer, âYou crawled out from under a cabbage leaf.â When I was working on a never-completed attempt at a westernized Divine Principle, called âLevel 5,â I asked my mentor how Divine Principle answers that question. He said âHmmm, Iâll get back to you on that.â The next day, True Parents changed my mission. I found the Divine Principle answer thirty-three years later.
The answer has everything to do with Hyo Jeong, and here it is:
âI am the one who participated in the fundamental root at the beginning of my parentsâ love.â
That word of Father Moon is equivalent to âIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.â
But I am not only part of the causal love; I am part of the resultant love. In Father Moonâs words, âI am the one who appears as the result of my parentsâ love. Because cause and result start in the same place, our relationship cannot be severed. The source of parentsâ love, which is the cause, and of the love I have in my life, which is the result, are one.â
“Think of an eternal moment you had with your parents. Let them be with you forever through that moment.”
The beautiful conclusion is that the essence of life is Hyo Jeong: âIn this sense we can say that a parent and a child are one body, based on love. âŠI am a participant in my parentsâ love, as one body with them.â
I know this is true because my mother told me so. When I was twelve, I gazed at her nakedness, and she told me, âYou are part of my body.â I was sitting on the toilet; she was in the bathtub. You might think I came from an odd family, but it was a true Christian family.
Think of an eternal moment you had with your parents. Let them be with you forever through that moment. Father Moon says that if you turn around, you will see your parents: âWherever I go, my parents follow me. My parents always want to be with me, even in the spirit world. âŠthinking of and loving your parents as if they were your own body and carrying out your filial duty are of the highest value for human beings. Thatâs why it is said, âHeavenâs blessing comes to the harmonious family.ââ
This is Hyo Jeong.
